The story of 'The Purple Coat'

After an overwhelming response, to my purple coat on my Instagram feed, I thought I should share a secret of how I landed this piece.

Given my excitement to share you may have already guessed this was a bargain, I snagged at a thrift store. Yes, but here is the fun part - this is a Park Avenue brand coat I found in a store in commercial street.

It’s no secret that I love a good bargain, so obviously exploring street shopping on my trips back home is a must. ( Watch my India shopping video on IGTV here). On a warm Saturday afternoon last December I entered commercial street ( via the Tamanna lane) on the right I saw a small thrift store and walked in. To my surprise, they had a ton of coats and winter clothing. I tried this and I was not sure at first. After a little thought, I realized that at a good price point (₹ 1000) I would have a warm coat in a color I wanted to experiment with.

I was still unsure if would keep warm in the Bay Area but you guys this coat had been a staple in my winter wardrobe. I have used it almost every day. It has kept me comfortable, cozy and didn’t make me feel guilty as I wore it on filthy public transport and dry cleaned it multiple times.

My only piece of advice is - no matter the color or price don’t compromise on the quality for your winter wear but keep an open mind on where you find a good deal.

Never thought I would find a warm and stylish coat in Bangalore to get me through California weather!
