In Dialogue with the Doodle Queen - Alicia Souza

Alicia Souza is one of the most admired and talented artists (Yes, I want to fill my home office with her prints) and down to earth celebrities I’ve reached out to. She lives in Bangalore with her husband and two fur babies. Here, Alicia talks to me about her style, doodles, and secret talent.

Where in India are you from? When did you move to Bangalore?

I was born and brought up in Abu Dhabi, UAE. I then moved to Melbourne for university and was there for 5 years and from there moved to Bangalore to start a company about 6 years ago.

What do you think about when you first get dressed in the morning?

I actually don’t think about anything because I have the best job in the world that allows me to work in my pajamas. Having said that, I’m the most serious pajama worker ever. No faffing or snoozing.

What do you like your outfits to say about you?

The one garment that never lets you down is

Shift dress and sneakers.

What’s the most dramatic thing you’ve done with your look?

Maybe getting bangs. That’s hardly dramatic though, but it was one of those things that I knew would work even though every single hairdresser said I had too small a forehead for it. Once I got it though, everyone liked it. So I stuck with it.

You are married!!!!!!. Tell us about it, what did you wear? Did you have makeup on?

Haha yes! Well, it was just going to the registration office. I wore what was on the top of my clothes pile. So it was jeans, a shirt (I think!) and I remember I was sent a scarf and wore it because it was new. I wore what my usual makeup of a wee bit of concealer and eyeliner. That’s it!

Do you wear anything special on dates or other special occasions?

I adore wearing dresses so that’s a given. I think the only thing I wear on occasions or dates that I usually don’t at other times are earrings. I love earrings too but I tend to only wear them when we’re going out.

What do you like about your look? (We love your glasses and how it always stays on your Instagram stories, pictures, and even doodles!)

Haha, I kind of hate wearing glasses and only wear them because I can’t get myself to wear contacts! I tried!I like that I’m really really true to myself. It’s comfortable and really ‘me’. It’s not a pain going shopping because I immediately know if I like something or not.

Do you have any funny little tips you swear by?

I tend to use a wee bit of oil before serum as my hair gets really dry after a wash. It works way better than just serum alone. Also, using a tad bit of hair wax on stray hairs when tying your hair into a ponytail works like a charm (though I get lazy to do that most of the time:P)

When in your life have you felt beautiful?

haha, I kind of feel beautiful every day! Pajamas or gowns doesn’t matter. I feel beautiful when I get a peck on the cheek from my husband or when my doggie licks my hand or my guinea pig follows me around.

Does George have a favorite look of yours? (And do you have one for him)

I think we both like each other in our respective birthday suits. haha!

Do you have any beauty pet peeves?

I guess I’m game for anything that isn’t invasive. Though I can hardly get myself to sit through a manicure because I have a bit of trouble on my patience levels.

What are your favorite online store/places to shop?

Probably Jabong.

Okay, here’s a lightning round:

Favorite Bangalore restaurant?

Phobidden Fruit.

Favorite brand of chips?

Sohar Chips

Favorite doodle you have drawn?

I don’t think I have a favorite yet!

Career advice?

Do things that scare you but that you know will ultimately make you happy.

Secret talent?

Crawling. Real fast.
